Chronic illness

ME/CFS (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis · Chronic Fatigue Syndrome)

A real illness with multiple mechanisms. The nervous system is one piece, not the only one. Here we explain what is known, what isn't, and what kind of daily care makes sense — without pushing past PEM or promising guaranteed recovery.

In one sentence

ME/CFS is a multisystem illness characterised by severe fatigue that doesn't improve with rest, post-exertional malaise (PEM), cognitive problems and dysautonomia. Nervous system regulation, pacing and daily care can help. A cure does not exist today — but some people do recover a wider life with time, patience and multi-pronged approaches.

What ME/CFS is, in honest terms

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis / Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) affects millions worldwide. The Institute of Medicine (2015) and CDC diagnostic criteria require severe fatigue for at least 6 months, substantial functional impairment, post-exertional malaise (PEM), unrefreshing sleep, and at least one of cognitive impairment or orthostatic intolerance. It frequently co-occurs with POTS, MCAS, fibromyalgia and post-viral syndromes. There is no single biomarker, but research points to mitochondrial dysfunction, immune alterations, autonomic disruption and central nervous system sensitisation — multiple mechanisms together, not one cause.

How Let's Shine approaches this

We don't reduce ME/CFS to "it's in your head". We also don't pretend to solve what science hasn't solved yet. We work with the nervous system piece that does respond to daily care — with absolute respect for PEM and for your real-day limits.

  • Pacing learned slowly with kind tracking of your baseline — no GET, no forced progressions.
  • Practices in PEM, severe, POTS and 30-second versions for when your body can't take more.
  • Education about the amygdala, fight-flight, the nervous system traffic light, without reducing everything to "stress".
  • 24/48h follow-up of every practice to detect delayed worsening and lower the dose automatically.
  • Daily AI companion that pauses coaching when clinical red flags appear.

What the evidence shows (and doesn't)

Current evidence (CDC, NICE NG206 from 2021) rules out structured graded exercise (GET) as curative and emphasises pacing. Nervous system regulation, polyvagal-informed and mind-body interventions show promising signals in small studies and numerous testimonies, but there are NO high-quality clinical trials proving cure. Honestly, this is a field still being built. What clearly helps without significant risk — pacing, daily somatic regulation, emotional containment, anti-alarm language. What clearly harms — pushing past PEM, demanding "heroic bravery", any psychological therapy that blames the patient.

When NOT to use regulation approaches

If chest pain appears, intense shortness of breath, syncope, new neurological signs, persistent fever or suicidal ideation — stop coaching and seek urgent medical help. Nervous system regulation does not replace clinical evaluation. If you've been in severe crash for several days (active PEM > 72h), rest first and return to the program when you recover baseline.

Frequently asked questions

Does Let's Shine cure ME/CFS?

No. We do not promise to cure, eliminate or reverse ME/CFS. We offer daily companionship for regulating your nervous system, safe pacing and learning tools that some people find useful over time. Recovery, when it occurs, is usually slow and depends on many factors.

Is this like DNRS or Gupta?

It shares roots with brain retraining (DNRS, Gupta, Primal Trust, re-origin) but differs in four key ways — (1) PEM-aware from minute one, (2) safety engine that pauses coaching on red flags, (3) bilingual Spanish-English, (4) much more accessible price than $1,000-1,500 programs. We don't copy proprietary protocols — we build our own based on open literature.

Will it work if I've had ME/CFS for years?

We can't promise. What we can say: many people with years of ME/CFS report partial improvement — more good days, fewer crashes, better quality of life — when introducing daily regulation, pacing and gentle reframing of beliefs about their bodies. Others notice no significant change. The honest answer is: we don't know who responds and who doesn't.

Do I have to stop my current medical treatment?

No. Let's Shine is wellness education and daily companionship, not medical treatment. Stay with your doctor, immunologist, rheumatologist, psychologist and any medication or therapy you have. We are one more piece, never a substitute.

How much does it cost?

We're in private beta by invitation. You can join the early-access list with no card. When we open public access, prices will be significantly lower than $600-1,500 programs because we don't want price to be another barrier for people who are already physically limited.
